Shopify Payments

Shopify Plus

Supported countries and regions

Use the following list to find out if Shopify Payments is available to use with the Shopify POS app in the country where your business operates:

Australia

Belgium

Canada

Denmark

Germany

Ireland

Netherlands

New Zealand

Spain

United Kingdom

United States (Shopify Payments is not available to US territories except Puerto Rico)

If the country where your business operates is not supported by Shopify Payments, then review the list of other payment gateways that Shopify supports.

Country and currency compliance for selling in person

When you process a POS transaction in person using Shopify Payments and a Shopify card reader, you must follow the payment rules for the country you're processing the transaction in. To accept in-person POS payments in multiple countries, you must create a separate Shopify store and Shopify Payments account for each additional country.

Shopify Plus

Instead of creating a new Shopify account, Plus merchants can create an expansion store.

Requirements

Shopify POS helps your business adhere to country requirements as long as your business meets the following requirements:

your Shopify store country must match the country of your physical store's location

your Shopify account currency must match the currency of your physical store's location

To accept payments with a Shopify card reader, your Shopify account and Shopify Payments account must have the same currency, location, and country settings.

Set up a new Shopify store to accept POS payments in a different country

You can accept in-person POS payments using Shopify Payments and a Shopify card reader in only one country per Shopify account. You don't need to set up additional stores for international locations where you don't accept in-person POS payments, such as locations for warehousing or inventory management. Accepting payments online from other countries also doesn't require different Shopify accounts.

For example, Jane's retail store is in the United States and she has a warehouse to store inventory in Canada. Jane doesn't need to create a new store for her warehouse in Canada because she doesn't accept in-person payments in Canada. If Jane wants to start selling in-person using Shopify POS in the United Kingdom, then Jane needs to create a new Shopify store that is based in the UK selling in GBP.

Steps:

Create a new store, registered in the country where you want to accept in-person POS payments and with the appropriate currency.

Set up the new store. You can export your product information from your original store using CSV files.

Create a new Shopify Payments account, registered in the country where you want to accept in-person POS payments and with the appropriate currency.
